ww2dbaseChiang Kaishek made the following speech from the Central Broadcasting System (forerunner of today's Broadcasting Corporation of China located in Taiwan, Republic of China) facility in Chongqing, China shortly after Emperor Showa's announcement to accept the Potsdam Declaration.

Today our enemies have defeated by the Allies, and we must enforce the Japanese on the terms of the surrender. But we do not seek vengence, and we do not humiliate the innocent civilians of the enemy nation. We must be sympathetic to their being fooled by their militarist leaders, let them understand the mistakes and evils committed by their nation. We must understand that if we respond to the Japanese violence with more violence, it will only generate vengence without end, and that is not our goal. ww2dbase
