ww2dbaseThe Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic was formed in 1924 with the capital established at Samarkand. In 1930, the capital was moved to Tashkent. During WW2, Uzbekistan hosted several major industries which were originally located west of the Ural Mountains as German forces invaded the Soviet Union in 1941. Accompanied with the factories were thousands of Russian nationals, which significantly altered the demographics of Tashkent. To a lesser degree, the population of the country was also altered by the influx of ethnic Koreans, Crimean Tatars, and Chechens which were forcibly relocated due to the central government's suspicion of disloyalty. After the war, Uzbekistan remained under the control of the Soviet Union until 1991 when the Republic of Uzbekistan was established.
