ww2dbaseCamp Concordia was the largest of the 16 prisoner of war camps in the state of Kansas, United States. Construction of the camp began in Feb 1943, and it was completed in May 1943. The first prisoners arrived in Jul 1943; most of them were German Army personnel captured in North Africa. The camp consisted of 300 buildings guarded by 800 US Army personnel. At its largest, the prisoner population was over 4,000. Most prisoners holding enlisted ranks were employed as agricultural laborers. The camp ceased operations in Nov 1945 and the prisoners were transported back to Germany. Much of the camp's land was converted to agricultural use after the camp's closure.
