how does it work? what keeps the water from boiling in the jacket? what makes the water in the can go up to the barrel. thx

According to a good friend of mine, who manned a 30cal MG, there was a reservor for water and they ran out, after urinating in the can. They continued firing until the weapon locked up. He got his second one the next day and the same thing happened. He said, "I never ran out of hand grenades though and kept them lined up in front of me every night cause those GD *** came in every night".
