Japan to End Sex Slave Fund

24 May 2005

During WW2, Japanese atrocities include the establishment of a military brothel system, where "comfort women" were provided to the conquering soldiers. An estimated 200,000 women in Asia were forced to become sex slaves. The fund, Asian Women's Fund, was initially set up in 1995 and had paid 2,000,000 yen to each applicant and subsequently paying for their medical and welfare expenses. This fund is scheduled to end in March 2007.
