Wreck of USS Lexington Found

6 Mar 2018

During the 1942 Battle of Coral Sea, Japanese aircraft struck USS Lexington with torpedoes and bombs, and she was ultimately scuttled. Paul Allen, who had funded several successful expeditions in search of sunken WW2 warships, was again behind another successful one, this time locating that of USS Lexington on 4 Mar 2018. The wreck was located on the seabed about 800 kilometers (about 500 miles) east of Australia, and about 3 kilometers (about 2 miles) below sea level.
