ww2dbaseLieutenant Iwasa Naoji was a submarine officer. At the attack on Pearl Harbor, his midget submarine, crewed by Naokichi Sasaki, was launched from I-22 nine miles from the American base. Originally the midget submarines were to provide intelligence before and during the attack, and they were only to launch their torpedoes after the attack after sundown. However, at the last moment, Lieutenant Naoji Iwasa who commanded the submarines asked for the permission to launch the attack during the actual aerial raid, which was accepted by his superiors, therefore essentially changing the role of the midget submarines into suicidal weapons.

Famous WW2 Quote
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."

Winston Churchill
