Full Title: Frozen in Time: An Epic Story of Survival and a Modern Quest for Lost Heroes of World War II

In 1942, a US plane crashed in Greenland. A few days later, a B-17 bomber searching for the wreckage crashed, too. Unfortunately, a J2F Duck biplane sent to rescue the crew of the B-17 bomber became lost as well. Many decades later, a group consisted of members of United States Coast Guard and North South Polar, Inc. searched for the wrecks of the J2F Duck biplane in 2012. Author Mitchell Zuckoff, who was a member of this expedition, told the 1942 and the 2012 stories in parallel in the book Frozen in Time. The 1942 survival story was told in gripping detail; going through the book, I felt as if I was in the frozen glacier with them, watching my every step to avoid crevasses and wondering whether my mind would remain sane if I was to be in such an icy world for 148 days. The 2012 story was a bit lacking, however; he succeeded in expressing the importance to find this little piece of history frozen in time, but the narration of the expedition was somehow drab and unexciting.

This book was another one of my audio book findings at the local library. Like what the author had done with his previous work Lost in Shangri-La, he had read the book himself, which I again I appreciated and enjoyed very much. Being the one who wrote the original text, Zuckoff knew exactly how to present each passage, knew exactly where to pause, and knew exactly where to speed through.

Frozen in Time was not as interesting to me as Lost in Shangri-La, but still an interesting one nevertheless. Probably not one for the personal library, but could be worth picking up from the library.
