ww2dbase45 mm M1942 (M-42) anti-tank guns were developed by the engineers of the No. 172 Plant of Motovilikha Plants, based on the older 1937 model (53-K) design. Compared to 53-K, M-42 guns had longer barrels, had thicker shields (increased from 4.5 millimeters to 7 millimeters), and used ammunition with more powerful cartridges. They also enjoyed some minor design changes to streamline production. They first entered service in 1942, and by 1943 were being supplemented by 57 mm ZiS-2 anti-tank guns, though they would remain in production and in service until the end of the war. When production ceased in mid-1945, 10,843 examples were built.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
