In 1931, an order was issued for 20 examples of the GL-811 HY variant design, followed by a further 29 examples of GL-812 HY in 1933 and 13 examples of GL-813 HY in 1934. They served aboard several French cruisers as well as with several seaplane squadrons. When the European War broke out in 1939, squadrons 1S2 at Cherbourg and 3S3 at Berre were activated and were equipped with HY-810 HY series of floatplanes, flying patrols over the French coast against German naval activities. Survivors of the German invasion were retired from service by the end of 1940.
