ww2dbaseStarting in late Jan 1941, representatives of the American, British, and Canadian military discussed potential military coordination at Washington, DC, United States for the case that the United States enter the war. Some of the conclusions arrived of this later-named American-British Conversations (ABC) include the elimination of Italy as quickly as possible, the support of resistance groups in occupied Europe, air offensives, and the introduction of the "Europe First" strategy that would later play a central role in American war planning.

29 Jan 1941 | Secret US-British staff talks began in Washington DC, United States regarding the possible US involvement in the European War. |
27 Mar 1941 | American and British representatives met at Washington DC, United States. |
30 Mar 1941 | At a conference in Washington DC, United States, the US and the United Kingdom agreed on military coordination in the event of US entry into the war. In accordance to another agreement made in the conference, the Americans seized 2 German, 26 Italian, and 35 Danish ships in US ports; 850 Italian and 63 German officers and men were imprisoned. |
1 Apr 1941 | To avoid being captured by the Americans and Canadians, 8 German merchant ships were scuttled by their own crews in various South American ports. |
