ww2dbaseIshigaki Airfield, located across the Maezato and Ohama Districts on Ishigaki, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, was built by the Japanese Army during WW2, using both Japanese and Korean laborers. It began operation in Sep 1942. In the final stages of the war, several special attack units were based at this airfield. On 16 Jun 1956, it became a joint civilian-military airport. Operations ceased at Ishigaki Airport on 6 Mar 2013, and traffic were routed to the newly constructed New Ishigaki Airport across the island.
