ww2dbaseEugen Felix Schwalbe was born in Kleinprießligk, Saxony, Germany. He joined the German Army in 1912. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on 22 Dec 1914. For gallantry in WW1, he received the Iron Cross First Class and Second Class awards. He remained with the post-war German military and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in Mar 1937. When the European War began, he was the commanding officer of the 461st Infantry Regiment; he remained at the head of that unit until 1 Feb 1941. During this time, he was promoted to the rank of colonel on 1 Mar 1940 and was awarded the Knight's Cross award on 13 Jul 1940. On 1 Oct 1942, he was promoted to the rank of major general. On 1 Oct 1943, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general. He was awarded the German Cross (Deutsche Kreuz) award in silver on 30 Oct 1943 and the same in gold on 7 Dec 1944, making him one of the very few recipients of both awards. He was promoted to the rank of general on 1 Mar 1945. He passed away in 1974 in Bielefeld, Westphalia, Germany.
