ww2dbaseLouis-Lazare Kahn escaped to Britain by crossing the Pyrenees mountain range into Spain; as a Jew, he did not have a promising outlook in Vichy France. He oversaw the building of a Free French Navy at Algiers, French Algeria. After the war, he chaired the French Naval Academy between 1959 and 1961. From 1963 until his death in Feb 1967, he was a prominent community leaders of Jews in France. He passed away in Paris, France and received a state funeral. He was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Versailles, France, the city of his birth.
