ww2dbaseConstantin Sănătescu was a former military attachĂ© to Paris and London who left the military at the rank of general. In 1937, he was Romania's Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and was given the responsibility of establishing a new government after Ion Antonescu was overthrown. He supported Romania's switch from the Axis to the Allies, and attempted rather ineffectively to get closer to the United States to prevent a Communist takeover. He resigned on 2 Dec 1944 under Russian pressure.
