Hurricane fighters accounted for about half of the British Royal Air Force Fighter Command in the first year of the European War, and they would continue to be the main workhorses for the British. In Hawker Hurricane Mk I-V, author Martyn Chorlton provided a fairly in-depth study of this aircraft design, especially given the small size of this book (64 pages). The first pages of the book were devoted to the history of the development, followed by a mark-by-mark technical analysis. The final section of the book, which consisted about half of the book, detailed Hurricane fighters' participation in campaigns ranging from Western Europe to Norway and from Southeast Asia to Malta. Like other titles in Osprey Publishing's "Air Vanguard" series, the collection of photographs and illustrations was among what I treasured most from this title; to that end, the fold-out cutaway hidden in the back cover was certainly a pleasant surprise as I reached the end of the book. Although small in size, I thought Hawker Hurricane Mk I-V packed a good amount of information, and I would recommend it to those seeking information on the Hurricane fighter.
