ww2dbaseHans Albrecht Wedel was the lead ship of her class of seaplane tenders. She entered service in 1941 and was deployed to Norway. In Aug 1944, she was grouped together with other seaplane tenders at the island of Rügen on the German coast to form a unit to evacuate military servicemen and civilian refugees from areas under Soviet threat. In Oct 1944, she served in that role at Klaipėda, Lithuania (German: Memel) and in Ostpreußen, Germany (English: East Prussia). At about 1220 hours on 8 Apr 1945, she was sunk during a Soviet air raid in Danzig (Polish: Gdańsk) Bay; 10 were killed in her sinking.
