ww2dbaseIn 1930, the French Navy issued a request to update its inventory of shipboard reconnaissance floatplanes, and the contract was ultimately awarded to the manufacturer Gourdou-Leseurre. The first prototype, GL-830 HY, featured a relatively powerful engine than the second, GL-831 HY, but it would be the second prototype that would be selected. Finalized as GL-832 HY, the French Navy issued an order for 22 production examples in 1933. GL-832 HY low-wing monoplane floatplanes were of metal construction with fabric-covered wings. Production ceased in 1936 after all 22 examples were completed. Including the two prototype aircraft, a total of 24 aircraft of this design were built. Many of them were still in operation at the start of the European War, and they would remain in operation aboard French warships until 1941.
