Contributor:

ww2dbaseDesign by Celestino Rosatelli, the CR.25 aircraft were first designed as a heavy fighter, but they were eventually used only in roles where combat was not expected; for the most part, they were reconnaissance aircraft with the 173rd Reconnaissance Squadron in Sicily, Italy, though they did occasionally perform escort and transport duties. Despite favorable performance evaluations by pilots, only 10 were produced, therefore they did not play a major role in WW2. Beginning in Oct 1942, only 13 months since they entered military service, they began to be substituted by Ca.314 aircraft made by Caproni-Reggiane. Fiat proposed a new improved version in spring 1943, but the project was never started.
