ww2dbaseThe LaGG-1 (ЛаГГ-1) fighters were designed in 1938 using wood to achieve light-weight characteristics. The prototype flew on 30 Mar 1939, and then over 100 aircraft were produced for evaluation. Pilots reported that the aircraft was underpowered and lacked agility and range. Because of the unfavorable reviews, only limited numbers were produced. The small number served mostly during the Winter War and the Continuation War against Finland.
