ww2dbaseThe Ki-1 bombers were employed by the Japanese Army as the Army Type 93 Heavy Bombers. The design was developed from the German firm Junkers' K37 design. The prototype purchased from Germany was used in combat during the actions in the Manchurian region of northeast China in 1931 and 1932, and the first Japanese-built example, much larger than the K37 prototype, took the first flight in Aug 1932. Production began in Mar 1933. Production ceased in Apr 1936 after 118 examples were built. Although they were replaced in 1937, the year war began in Asia, they remained in service in China for several more years.
