- German submarine U-74 sank Canadian corvette HMCS Lévis of Allied convoy SC-44 125 miles east of Iceland at 0603 hours; 18 were killed, 40 survived). - Cruisers HMS Ajax, HMS Neptune, and HMAS Hobart arrived in Alexandria, Egypt after delivering supplies to Tobruk, Libya and began to embark troops of the UK 70th Infantry Division. ww2dbase [Hobart | CPC]
- Leonardo da Vinci sighted a large aircraft in the Atlantic Ocean at 1147 hours. She sent recognition signals, but the aircraft did not respond. At 1155 hours, the aircraft, now visibly an Allied aircraft, attacked with a bomb and strafed the Italian submarine. Two minutes later, the submarine returned fire with her deck gun, which forced the aircraft to keep its distance. - Morosini sighted a small destroyer or a submarine chaser in the Atlantic Ocean at 0320 hours. Shortly after, another two vessels of a similar type was sighted. She stopped her diesel engines and remained quiet in the darkness, and she was not detected. At 0810 hours, she sighted the Allied convoy that she was informed of during the previous evening. She continued to shadow the convoy until 1320 hours when she was forced to submerged by a destroyer. At 2308 hours, she sighted a submarine chaser. ww2dbase [Morosini | CPC]
