  • German submarine U-83 stopped Portuguese ship Corte Real 100 miles off Portugal at 1400 hours. Upon discovering that Corte Real was en route to Canada and Australia, the Germans removed the 42 crew members onto 3 lifeboats and then sunk Corte Real. U-83 towed the lifeboats for 3 hours toward Lisbon, Portugal before cutting the tow lines. ww2dbase [CPC]
