ww2dbaseKoshun Airfield near the southern tip of Taiwan was established by the Japanese Army in the 1920s. In the opening chapters of the Pacific War, some of the Ki-27 aircraft of Japanese Army 50th Air Squadron (Sentai) were based in Koshun Airfield, embarking on missions against American fighters in the Philippine Islands before they were relocated to the Philippine Islands. Toward the end of the war, it was used largely as an emergency airfield for both Army and Navy aircraft. The airfield remained unused for decades after the war until it was re-opened as the small civilian Hengchun Airport in 2003.
