I Arrived in Apra Harbor aboard the USS ARD 26 shortly after the island was secured. We
remained in Apra Harbor except for three or four trips. One to Sipan and one to Tinian to dock a dredge at both islands and transport them to Apra Harbor to be used to dredge out parts of Apra Harbor. We made one or two trips to Okinawa. One of which was used to move one of the dredges to Okinawa. We were a naval 18 wheeler if you would.
I left in February 1946 to be discharged and returned to civilian life.
Would like to hear from anyone who served aboard an ARD
Fred
