LOW LEVEL ATTACK: BOMBS AWAY!
North American B-25 Mitchell of the 405th Bomb Squadron, "Green Dragons" of the 38th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force makes a low level skip bombing attack against Japanese shipping. The unit was activated on Jan. 15, 1941 and flew the both the B-25 and B-26 medium bombers.
The group operated from bases in Australia and
New Guinea attacking Japanese shipping, supply areas and other targets.
LIKE A STONE SKIPPING ACROSS THE WATER:
What is skip bombing: low level, high speed attack on shipping, bombs dropped would hit the water and skip across the surface until hitting the enemy ship. This was used and gave a much higher percentage of hits than trying to bomb from altitude.
