SINK THE YAMATO!
APRIL 7,1945 THE US NAVY LAUNCHED 280 AIRCRAFT. 132 FIGHTERS, 50 BOMBERS AND 98 TORPEDO PLANES, YAMATO TOOK A DOZEN TORPEDO HIT AND TEN 500LB BOMBS.
FLOODED BY TORPEDO DAMAGE AND BOMBS, YAMATO LISTED TO PORT AND CAPSIZED, THE 3,000 TON GUN TURRETS BROKE FREE FROM THEIR MOUNTS AND PLUNGED INTO THE SEA.
YAMATO EXPLODED THE BOW BROKE AWAY FOLLOWED BY MORE EXPLOSIONS, SHE SPLIT IN TWO AND SANK IN 1200 FEET OF WATER THE WRECKAGE OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE LAY UPSIDE DOWN AND THE BOW FACING THE TOWARDS THE AFT PART OF THE SHIP. AT WARS END THE JAPANESE DESTROYED AS MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT THE YAMATO, TODAY ONLY A FEW WARTIME PHOTOS AND SURVIVING DATA REMAIN. WITH COMPUTER IMAGING THE YAMATO ONCE AGAIN SAILS THE SEA.
OF THE 3,000 CREW, 269 SURVIVED PICKUP BY A JAPANESE DESTROYER. WORLD WAR II ENDED THE BATTLESHIP AS A CAPITAL SHIP, REPLACED BY THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER.
