STEP UP AND TAKE WHAT'S YOURS:
The Japanese fought for the Emperor, the Germans fought for Hitler and the Americans for
souvenirs. GI's take a few odds and ends to show the folks back home. Photo shows GI's doing that
GROUNDED:
Nakajima Ki43 "Oscar" is the fighter a Ki43-Ib armed w/1 x 12.7mm and 1 x 7.7mm machine gun, or a Ki-43Ic w/2 x 12.7mm machine guns its anybody's guess.
You can see the blast tube for the machine gun on the starboard side above the engine it could be the Nakajima Ha-115, 14-Cylinder air-cooled driving a three bladed propeller. Its hard to tell from the photo what production model it is.
PRODUCTION WARS:
The Ki-43 "Oscar' was designed and built by the Nakajima Aircraft Co., Tachikawa also built the Oscar starting in 1943 as well as the 1st Army Air Arsenal, total production was 5,878 aircraft.
