Famous WW2 Quote
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."Winston Churchill

This was the only military decoration any WASP pilot would receive until their veteran status was approved in 1975, at which time they were all eligible for retroactive American Campaign Medals and World War II Victory Medals. Barbara Erickson’s Air Medal citation reads:
For meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flights between 29 Aug and 7 Sept, 1943. Miss Erickson, squadron leader of the Long Beach WASP unit, between the above dates, a period of slightly more than five days actual flying, completed four two-thousand-mile deliveries, involving three different types of aircraft.
In addition to flying skill, WASP Erickson demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and administrative ability and assisted in formulating plans for future WASP operations. Her outstanding professional skill and devotion to duty provide a standard worthy of emulation by all.
