Picture was taken July 6, 8, or 9 of 1944. Ranger was in Norfolk for an overhaul notably to strengthen her flight deck and update her radar and CIC capabilities, all to meet then current levels within the Fast Carrier Task Forces (more commonly known as TF 38 or 58). She was docked on the 7th and 10th, and then on the 11th was underway for the Panama Canal and the Pacific where she was assigned as a training carrier working out of Pearl Harbor and then San Diego and Alameda. She never saw combat in the Pacific, but she flew well over 25,000 training sorties in her time in the Pacific.
