The B-24 taking off is 41-24293 "SHERAZADE" of the 14AF 308BG 425BS at Kunming, the main air base of the 308BG (not an "advance air field"). This B-24 crashed approaching the airfield at Chabua on 25-Jan-1944, killing 6 of the 8 crewmen on board. The P-40 "NIPPONESE NEMESIS" was piloted by Matt "Charlie" Gordon, Jr. of the 23FG 75FS (note the unusual eye in the nose art). Gordon was one of America's first WWII aces, scoring 8 aerial victories against Japanese planes.
