KEEP THOSE WEAPONS CLEAN! The ground crew had to maintain the weapons, as well as engine performance. Boresighting and adjustment was always needed due to vibration from the firing and the engine itself. The machine guns mounted on the upper fuselage with their synchronization gear needed to be serviced as well. The propeller pitch mechanism as well as all necessary components were serviced daily the survival of the pilots depended upon it.
