IN ENEMY HANDS:
Did you know during the Great Patriotic War the Soviets captured vast amounts of German military equipment, especially aircraft for testing and evaluation. Messerschmitt Bf 109s of different versions, were captured through various ways and were tested and evaluated.
The Soviets salvaged different components along with enough spare parts to keep the other 109s operational. After WWII most of the captured aircraft were scrapped, while other types of a/c
were kept until the 1950s.
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE: ONE Bf 109
During WWII the USA requested an example of a
Messerschmitt Bf 109 for tests and evaluation, from the Soviets, the one that the USA had, crashed before tests could be carried out among the other captured equipment sent to the USA, was one Bf 109...da! Did you know that in 1942 the Soviets also shipped one T-34 tank to the USA for evaluation....
