Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 of 2./JG 20 at the
outbreak of war, I./JG 20 was based at Furstenwalde and formed part of Luftflotte I
in northeastern Germany.
The Bf 109 served the Luftwaffe for eight years, production during the years 1936-1945
accounted for about two-thirds of Germanys
entire output of single-engine fighters.
Total number produced in excess of 33,000
aircraft.

Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 was armed with four
7.9mm Rheinmetall-Borsig MG 17 machine guns
two mounted in the upper fuselage w/1,000rpg
and two wing mounted w/420rpg.
Aircraft could also be armed with two MG 17's
in the upper fuselage w/1,000rpg and two wing mounted Oerlikon MG FF 20mm cannons with
60rpg.

1,091 Bf 109's left the assembly line
between Jan. 1, 1939 and Sept. 1,1939 the
German invasion of Poland.
