The Nakajima A2N, Type 90 Carrier-based fighter was built for the Imperial Japanese Navy in the 1930s. 166 aircraft were built,
including the A2N2 two-seat trainers.
Assigned to the Aircraft Carriers Hosho, Kaga and Ryujo, the A2N also saw service in China in 1937.
The A2N was a biplane of mixed construction of fabric covered metal fuselage and similar fabric and wing costruction, with a fixed undercarriage and tail-wheel.
Powered by 1xNakajima 9-cylinedr air-cooled radial engine, armed w/2x7.7mm machine guns. Maximum speed was 293km/h/182mph.
The Nakajima Aircraft Company was founded in
1918 by naval engineer Chikuhei Nakajima.
At the end of WWII Nakajima closed production
of military aircraft for the Army and Navy,
since building of aircraft was prohibited by the Allied powers.
The Company was dissolved however, a number of spin-off Companies in post-war Japan were setup by former employees, engineers and managers helped to develop Japan's automobile
industry.
BACK IN BUSINESS:
The Company was reborn as Fuji Heavy Industry
producer of heavy & light trucks, machinery and other products and the producer of the Subaru automobile.
The Fuji T-1 Jet Trainer was the first jet powered aircraft developed in post-war Japan
Fuji and other Japanese aircraft companies
built under licence were a number of U.S. designed aircraft, like the North American
F-86 Sabre and the Lockheed P2 Neptune Patrol Bomber built by Kawasaki.
