HIRYU NO MORE: THIS LITTLE PEGGY WENT OUT TO PASTURE.
Mitsubishi KI-67-1-Kai,To-Go means Tokubeteu Kogeki-special attack.
Aircraft were modified for kamikaze attacks. Peggy was found stripped and abandoned location Clark Air Base, 1945 Luzon, Philippines.
Aircraft was discovered by TAIU-SWPA its possible this Peggy could have belonged to
Fugakutai(Special Attack Unit),1st Kyodo
Hikotai Hamamatsu Kyodo Hiko Sidan, Hamamatsu
Training Air Division, 7th Sentai.
Aircraft is missing its engines, propellers horizontal stabilizers, tail and rudder.
Tail marking was a stylized Mount Fuji and River Fuji insignia w/aircraft number on tail
Other units were the 62nd and 98th Sentai.
THE BIG BANG:
To-Go aircraft was modified all weapons were removed, tail and upper turret removed and faired over, glazed nose section removed and replaced with 800kg/1760lb solid nose warhead.
Aircraft were also modified to carry a 6400lb
thermite bomb with a blast radius of 1km.
File photograph shows the fuzing impact rod still in nose. Aircraft was crewed by pilot,
co-pilot and navigator. Some KI-67s were camouflaged in dark green with light gray undersides or light gray overall with nose a dark gray or green, red-brown spinners with propellers brown with yellow tips. Red sun insigina in six positions.
