RISING SUN:

W-114 assigned to carrier Soryu, Kokutai the A5M
"Claude" was the world's first all metal built
monoplane carrier based fighter. Designed as an open cockpit fighter, it had two fixed main landing
gears with the wheels in stream-lined fairings, the fuselage was flush-riveted aluminum skin w/
fabric covered control surfaces for carrier service it was equipped with an arrestor hook.

JAPANESE RED TAILS:

Tails were painted red on Naval aircraft from mid
1930s until mid 1941. The A5M was armed with
2 x 7.7mm machine guns, 2 x 30kg/66lb bombs
and 1 x drop tank, 1,094 were built by Mitsubishi
the Claude entered service in 1938, powered by
1 x Nakajima 710hp, Kotobuki 41, air-cooled
radial engine.

THE EXPENDABLES:

Like most Japanese aircraft, surviving Claude's were expended in Kamikaze operations not one example of any A5M survives today, that can be salvaged.
