By May 1944 the 9th Air Force operated eight B-26 groups, the 322nd, 323rd, 344th, 386th, 387th, 391st, 394th and 397th comprising 28 squadrons. These were used extensively in supporting Allied armies during and after the D-Day landings. B-26B 42-95857 "Shootin-in" served with the the 556th Bomb Sqn. of the 387th BG.
