Lucien Truscott was given command of Fifth Army in Dec 1944 when Mark Clark assumed command of the 15th Army Group. This photo was taken after those reassignments at a time when Truscott was the commanding general of the US Fifth Army in Italy.

Mark Clark was CO of the Fifth Army. Truscott was CO of VI Corps.
