It's so sad we were so stupid to let the Big E be scrapped. The ONE Yorktown class carrier that made it all the way through the war. Just think of the history that one ship made….Doolittle's raiders, Midway, Santa Cruz, on and one…..but we didn't care enough to save her? We DID "save" other less notable ships…….
I still lament the decision to let her go………….

The large flight deck behind the Enterprise is the USS Independence (CV-62) fitting out. Built in New York Navy Yard, launched on 6th June 1958 and commissioned 10th January 1959. Enterprise was sold for scrap 10 days later on 1st July 1958.
