Army LtGen Robert C Richardson is seated next to the President and Adm William Leahy is standing beside the car. The car used by the President during his stay in Hawaii was borrowed. The President was insistent that the car be a large open top car so that he could see and be seen more easily. There were only two such automobiles on Oahu and both were offered to the President. One belonged to Honolulu’s Fire Chief and the other belonged to the island’s most notorious madam. The photo shows the President seated in the Fire Chief’s Packard.
