Note the enormous Wilson cloud extending over the lagoon captured in this photo despite the fact this effect is created and then dissipates within a second.
Note also the black spot on the right side of the vertical water column. This is the “shadow” of the battleship USS Arkansas that was anchored within the perimeter of what became the water column and as water was thrown upward, the Arkansas created a hole in that water, or a “water shadow.”
Also, note that even the trunks of the palm trees in the foreground are painted in the red and white scale markings.
