I also wondered about those two men but given the obvious Allied presence on this street, I was forced to conclude these were not German soldiers- perhaps French troops or (more likely) local police. This photo came with no other information about it except what can be seen in the image itself and my guess about it being in the South of France may be incorrect- this may be Holland or even Germany. The Allied presence here is probably British but I also thought the soldier walking up the middle of the street with his riding boots and heavy shoulder boards had a distinctly Russian look about him.
