This aircraft slid into the ship’s island and was destroyed. The pilot, Ens Frank T Long, and both crewmen were uninjured. Note the LSO screen at the corner of the flight deck with the LSO safety net beneath it. Note also the 11 arresting cables across the flight deck.

Several sources date this photo as 19 Jun 1944 during the Marianas Turkey Shoot but squadron records only show one TBM lost to a deck crash during this period and that was 15 Jun 1944 after a raid on Chichi Jima.
