These gliders delivered Major John Howard's team from the 2nd Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in the opening moments of the Normandy invasion 6 Jun 1944 on their mission to capture the Bénouville bridge (later Pegasus Bridge) which is just beyond the trees in this photo.
