Certificate No. 1 was issued to J.J. Clark himself and this is certificate No. 2 issued to Clark’s brother, Ira. One certificate was issued to each Hornet pilot for each raid they flew against the “Jimas.” Note that the certificates include the patch designs from the three squadrons of Air Group Two.

I just learned about these, "Stock" certificates from the 3rd installment of Ian Toll's Pacific War Trilogy, "Twilight of the god's" book; page 119. These were extraordinary men that flew and fought this war in the Pacific. The book(s) are the very best, readable explanation for WWII.

I do believe your statement of Admiral Clark possessing certificate #1 is erroneous, he in fact possessed #2, Admiral Marc Mitscher was presented with certificate #1
