I believe Tucker was struck on 4 August 1942, not the 3rd as depicted in the caption.

You are correct. I was led astray by the Navy’s official caption for this photo that incorrectly dates the event as 3 Aug 1942 but other authoritative sources, including Tucker’s own logs, establish the date as 4 Aug 1942. The caption has been corrected and thank you for pointing this out.
