The German sail training ship Horst Wessel (launched June 13, 1936) was taken by the United States after the war as part of the war retributions. Renamed Eagle she displaces 1,634 tons and has a sail area of 21,530 sq. ft.
Dimensions: 265¾ (pp), 295¼ (o a) x 39⅓ x 15¾ feet (mean), 16⅓ (max).
Machinery: Two M.A.N. auxiliary diesel engines (700 bhp at 10 knots).
Fuel: 48 tons.
