SUICIDE BOMBER:
The Yokosuka D4Y2 (Judy) were modified for the special attack role, flown only by the pilot, the radio operator/gunner was eliminated and carried 1 x 800kg bomb. Rockets were installed under the fuselage to boost its diving speed to the target.
Powered by 1 x Mitsubishi Kinsei 62, 1,500hp 14 cylinder air-cooled radial engine. As the Pacific war came to an end, both the Japanese Navy and the Army employed special attack or (Kamikaze)
sorties against allied forces.

GROUNDED! WWII VETERAN
Planes of Fame located at Chino Airport, Chino, Ca. USA, has a restored D4Y3
"Judy" Model 33 radial-engine dive bomber.
SALVAGED FROM THE JUNGLE:
Built by Yokosuka, February 1944 s/n 7483 Kokutai unknown, aircraft was abandoned Babo airfield a/c was left standing on its landing gears minus its engine, maybe to prevent it from being strafed.
Aircraft left to the elements for decades, early 1991 shipped to California for long-term restoration.
By 2010 it was just about restored, radial-engine is a US power-plant, aircraft can taxi, but has not flown. Painted dark green with tail number 601-35. Note* Judy in file photo, is not the one at Planes of Fame...
