Note that the commissioning took place in Mare Island’s Drydock #3. Note also that Silversides was being commissioned well before she was ready for sea. At the bottom of the frame, there are some planks laid across the bridge apparently for suspending something in front of the conning tower, probably the ship’s bell needed for the ceremony. Note further that the deck gun that would be mounted on this deck has not been installed yet and that much of the decking was plywood and construction planks.
